Low Carb Diet Part 02

Obesity

Today’s statistics have shown that 30% of U.S. adults are obese, and another 35% are overweight; 15% of children weigh too much. Diseases of obesity, such as Type 2 (“adult-onset”) diabetes, now are appearing in children. Obesity is also the main cause of many other diseases such as heart problems and hypertension. Each year in the U.S., an estimated number of 300,000 people die of obesity-related diseases. Low carb diet remain one of the best option to help you lose weight.

Reason for Overweight and Obesity

1) Overeating – Many experts believe that big appetite is a natural reminder of the not-too-distant past (in anthropological term) when food was hard to come by. Thus when we found food, we ate all we could as insurance against starvation. The excess was stored in the body as fat. Today, foods are in abundance in the U.S. Our biological nature and market forces encourage us to overeat and thus this leads us to obesity.

2) Sedentary lifestyle : although it’s more common to see people jogging and going to gym today than it was 40 years ago, overall, we’re less physically active. We rely on machines to move us, to entertain us, and to do physical work for us.

Lowcarb diet

The choice of eating plans has never been wider for dieters, but the objective remains the same, to lose pounds. Diet today can generally be divided into these 3 main groups:

1. Low Calories Diet
2. Low Fat Diet
3. Lowcarbdiet

Lowcarb diet offers an alternative to dieters who want to lose weight. Low carb diets success can be explained by the fact that low carb intake curbs the appetite, so it is easy to stay on the diet and even make it a lifestyle.

Most dieters can reach a condition called ketosis by limiting their carb intake to less than 60 grams a day, Protein intake is increased (to 30% or more of total calories as opposed to 10-15% for normal diet) to compensate for the loss of calorie due to reduction of carbohydrate intake. The state of ketosis is what makes a ketogenic diet metabolically so similar to fasting that it is often being referred to as a controlled fast.

Low Carb Diet : How it works

1) Low carb diet which is high in protein and can increase dietary-induced thermogenesis – which means that it will help your metabolism to speed up and therefore create a greater calorie deficit that helps you to lose weight.

2) Low carb diet produces ketones in the blood that are responsible for reducing appetite, hunger pangs and gives a feeling of fullness . This will reduce the carbohydrate cravings thus calories intake.

3) Low carbdiet advises dieters to avoid refined carbohydrate to reduce production of insulin and helps dieters avoid insulin resistance . Insulin resistance is a situation when insulin levels are too high. In such situation, organs and cells no longer allow enough of the insulin into the cells. Since insulin cannot get enough of the blood sugar into organs and muscles that need it, the blood sugar remaining in the bloodstream is in excess and this triggers the liver to turn the blood sugar into fat and store it in your fat cell. Needless to say, this will expand your waistline and add pounds to your body.
